North Ave Residence
Missoula, MT
Completed 2012

Rocking M Design
101 East Broadway, Suite 612
Missoula, MT 59802

This project consisted of a functional and aesthetic 'face-lift' to an existing residence. The Owner had recently purchased the property for its location and amenities, but desired a completely different look and feel. Roof forms were modified and replaced to provide generous overhangs, with knee braces, fancy cut exposed rafter tails and gentle swoops in the manner of high quality craftsman detailing. New shingles, siding and trim above a natural stone wainscot were installed over exterior insulation to improve thermal performance and comfort. All doors and windows were replaced to match the character and further improve energy efficiency.

You and your architect:
Getting Started

ask yourself these questions:
  • How will your project be used — do you have specific ideas on how to translate these activities into spaces and square footage?
  • Do you have a site or will this also be a subject of discussion with your architect?
  • Have you decided upon a schedule or budget?
  • What are your overall aesthetic and emotional, as well as practical, aspirations for the project?
