ADVOCACY
AIA Montana believes values-based advocacy is a responsibility of our organization and critical to the integrity of our profession as architects. We aspire to high ethical and professional standards, and we work diligently to further our principles in the regulation, licensing and legislation that govern our profession. We recognize the fluid, transitory nature of our profession and the adaptation necessary to meet the challenges of our changing world. AIA Montana strives to act as the unified voice of our membership, advocating for sustainability through a proactive approach to design that integrates health, welfare and safety throughout all types of Montana’s urban and rural communities. We embrace equity as a core tenant of our
organization, our profession, and in our service to the communities of Montana.
ALLIANCE FOR RESPONSIBLE LICENSING (ARPL)
ARPL is a national coalition of the professional bodies and licensing boards representing engineers, architects, landscape architects, surveyors, and CPAs.
GOAL: Help Montanans appreciate something most people rarely stop to think about — that the buildings, bridges, financial systems, and public spaces they rely on are safe and trustworthy because of the licensed professionals responsible for them. The campaign isn’t about any one bill. It is, at its heart, a celebration of essential work that goes unnoticed, precisely because professional licensing works so well
ACTION: Recently launched a public awareness campaign across Montana: a mix of out-of-home billboards in the state’s largest markets and a companion digital advertising campaign.
- The state has convened a Licensing Reform Task Force; recommendations are due to the Governor in early September. As conversations about “licensing reform” take shape, it helps for the public to have a clear, positive understanding of what licensing is and does before the topic is defined only in the abstract or by groups hostile to licensing. This campaign aims to get that pro-licensing foundation in place
